Coal mine methane and landfill gas
We develop, finance, implement, operate and participate in project activities avoiding coal mine methane and landfill gas emissions. In these projects methane, a potent greenhouse gas, is either used for electricity and heat production or converted into the less detrimental CO2 by flaring. Otherwise, methane would be released into the atmosphere.
Technical expertise
RWE Power's subsidiary Mingas-Power is the largest power producer in Europe based on the utilisation of coal mine methane. Mingas-Power operates power generation systems combusting coal mine methane from various active mines in Germany with a total generation capacity of 54 MWel. Based on this experience, we offer our extensive know-how in the capture and utilisation of coal mine methane to realise CDM/JI projects - for ensuring a better exhaustion of mine gas and thus increasing safety at mines as well as for improving the mines' profitability by generating energy and carbon credits.
