Cement blending
CARBON Climate Protection focuses project activities that increase the share of additives used in the production of cement types beyond current practices in the country and though reduce the amount of clinker per tonne of blended cement. Additives are materials blended with clinker to produce blended cement types and include fly ash, gypsum and slag. Substituting clinker in cement by blending materials results in the reduction of CO2 emissions in two ways: first, by avoiding electrical and thermal energy used in producing clinker and associated CO2 emissions and by avoiding emissions of CO2 associated with calcinations of limestone in kilns and secondly, due to a reduced use of electrical energy in grinding and mixing of clinker and additives.
