CARBON Climate Protection GmbH identifies designs, finances, implements and operates projects reducing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and other greenhouse gases under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI). We offer to cooperate with plant operators and project developers in CDM and JI project activities in the field of catalytic destruction of N2O, methane recovery as well as energy projects and industrial processes. We are willing to participate in projects by equity investment and risk sharing.

Our dedicated team is experienced in identifying potential projects and in determining their eligibility under the CDM or JI. Our assessment of the economic viability of projects is based on a deep understanding of the specific opportunities inherent in the CDM and JI projects‘ process. We are familiar with the CDM and JI project risks and we know how to cope with. Engineering expertise combined with the know-how necessary to guide projects through the complex UN regulatory process enables us to successfully develop and operate projects, including the development of new CDM/JI methodologies, a crucial step during the project design phase. We do not only know how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also how to commercialise carbon credits from creation to profitable sale.



The industrial production of nitric acid (HNO3) produces the undesired by-products nitrogen monoxides (NO) and nitrous oxide (N2O) that are emitted into the atmosphere with the tail gas. Due to its longevity in the Earth’s atmosphere and its special infrared absorption properties radiation, N2O is a potent greenhouse gas. Thus, the elimination of N2O from nitric acid plants makes an important contribution to climate protection.

N2O abatement projects under the CDM or JI implemented by CARBON Climate Protection GmbH apply an innovative technology developed by the German engineering company Uhde, a world leader in nitric acid technology. Uhde’s EnviNOx® process achieves extremely high abatement rates of N2O (up to 99%) and NOx (down to nearly zero ppm) combined in a single reactor vessel while offering all advantages of and end-of-pipe technology. The EnviNOx® reactor can easily and safely be integrated into the nitric acid production process without affecting it in any way. Another significant advantage of the EnviNOx® technology is the fact that the inlet and outlet concentration of N2O at the EnviNOx® reactor can be continuously measured online which makes any monitoring of project performance easy, reliable and also conservative by taking into account measurement tolerance.

In cooperation with CARBON Climate Protection GmbH, a CDM or JI N2O destruction project using the EnviNOx® technology can be executed rapidly and generates a particularly high yield of carbon credits due to the very high rates of N2O emissions reduction that can be achieved, verified and certified.



Other fields of activities are the methane recovery (avoiding coal mine methane and landfill gas emissions), renewable energy projects hydropower, wind power, biomass and solar photovoltaic), energy efficiency improvement, fuel switch projects or cement blending.



We offer to share our competencies and experiences in CDM and JI projects with project owners throughout the world. We assist in making CDM or JI projects technically feasible, support project management and offer consultancy throughout the entire CDM or JI project cycle.
